What Does Twitter Have To Do With Micro-blogging?

Micro-blogging is a form of blogging, the main difference is the length of the posts, most of the time it contains shorter sentences and a lot more links. From my perspective micro-blogging is more visually appealing and attracts a lot more viewers. Because we know readers like to scan material and we as writers need to make sure our text is readable with different fonts, bullets, colors and images. Micro-blogging makes it easier to get the message across without unwanted text. Twitter is a form of micro-blogging, because it can convey information and start discussions using less than 200 characters.

Micrco-blogging Can Be Used For Many Different Purposes

It can be broken down into two main divisions for example:

  1. Convey Information: Use micro-blogging as a platform to be informational and let the optimal target auidnce know that your company is a trust worthy, credible and reliable source.
  2. Start A Discussion/ Participate In An Ongoing Conversation: Most micro-blogging goals will be to gain interaction and encourage participation. Once you get consumers interacting, you are utilizing permission marketing, because the user chooses to be engaged.

What are the different types of Tweets on Twitter? Well here are some examples to get you started:
  • The classic tweet- "This is what I'm doing right now."
  • The opinion tweet- "This is what I'm thinking now, they shouldn't have created a movie version of the book.. because."
  • The mission accomplished tweet- "This is what I have accomplished and done so far."
  • The entertainment tweet- "I'm making you giggle now."
  • The question tweet- "Can you help me do something now?"
  • The picture tweet- " Look at this picture and see what I have been doing."

Deciding On What To Tweet For Your Business Twitter?

There is no right number of times you should tweet each day or throughout the week. Focus on the quality of your tweets by using keywords that symbolize what message your trying to give. Make sure the content of your tweets are relevant towards your optimal target audience and show authentic your company is. For example I have extracted information from business.twitter.com that showcase tweets that spark c o n v e r s a t i o n s and keep your audience e n g a g e d! Here are two examples from the site:

1. Incorporate relevant hashtags: Hashtags are like keywords, they highlight the actions viewers need to take from this tweet. The recommendation is using no more than two hashtags per tweet, just like how this Twitter user used only two hashtags.

Since were taking about hashtags I will also add another hyperlink to the twitter help center site. I believe not everyone understands the concept of a hashtag and how to properly input it into your tweet. I believe the term may be new to some people. Therefore I will give everyone a hyperlink to the twitter help center, so they can fully understand how to input a hashtag in your tweet. Here is the url:

2. Ask questions and run polls: Asking open ended questions to your audience will make you an authentic company which is more human like. Because it shows that you care about your consumers opinions and you want to incorporate their needs and wants into your business.
